WEATHER QLD BRISBANE 1800
QUEENSLAND WEATHER SUMMARY:
WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS: Nil.
RAINFALL SUMMARY: There were no significant falls reported in the 6 hours to 3pm yesterday.
TEMPERATURE SUMMARY: Maximum temperatures yesterday were generally average or above over
most of the state except for parts of the tropics where local cloud cover kept them down. For
example, Birdsville (31) and Cunnamulla (29) were both 8 above, Mitchell and Bollon both 28
were 7 above, Windorah (30), Quilpie (28), St George (27) and Urandangi (26) all 6 above and
Amberley, Charleville and Roma all 27 were 5 above normal. Mareeba (24), on the other hand,
was 3 below and Charters Towers and Cardwell both 25 were 2 degrees below average.
NOTES ON THE WEATHER CHART: Yesterday's chart showed a weak high centred over the state
separated from a 1033 hpa high to the south of Western Australia. The local high produced
light to moderate easterly to north-westerly winds over the state with some isolated coastal
showers over northern parts. Inland conditions are fine and stable with generally above normal
temperatures during the day and below average overnight temperatures.
A trough extended across the southern half of the continent from the Tasman Sea well into
Western Australia. It was slowly rotating about its westernmost point and moving up the New
South Wales coast. The low in the Bight developed in response to a new upper level system.
SOUTH-EAST COAST DISTRICT: Continuing fine, freshening SE winds.
BRISBANE: Continuing fine, freshening SE winds. Max: 22. UV Index - 6 (high).
IPSWICH AREA: Continuing fine, freshening SE winds. Amberley max: 23. UV Index - 6 (high).
GOLD COAST: Continuing fine, freshening SE winds. Coolangatta max: 23. UV Index - 5 (high).
SUNSHINE COAST: Continuing fine, freshening SE winds. Tewantin max: 23. UV Index - 6
(high).
MORETON BAY: SE winds at 10/15 knots at first increasing to 15/20 knots by the afternoon.
Seas rising to 1.2 metres in the western bay.
PENINSULA DISTRICT: Isolated showers in the north and east. Moderate to fresh SE winds.
GULF COUNTRY DISTRICT: Fine. Light to moderate E to NE winds.
NORTHERN GOLDFIELDS AND UPPER FLINDERS DISTRICT: Fine. Light to moderate NE winds.
NORTH TROPICAL COAST AND TABLELANDS DISTRICT: A few showers coast to the eastern tablelands
chiefly early morning. Moderate to locally fresh SE winds.
CAIRNS: Mostly fine. A brief shower or two, mainly in the morning. Moderate SE'ly winds.
Max: 27. UV Index - 9 (very high).
HERBERT AND LOWER BURDEKIN DISTRICT: Mainly fine apart from some early morning cloud and
possible drizzle in coastal parts. Light to moderate SE to E winds with moderate to fresh
afternoon sea breezes on the coast. A moderate to high fire danger.
TOWNSVILLE: Cloudy at times but fine. Light to moderate east to south-east winds, becoming
moderate to fresh north-easterly during the afternoon. Moderate to high fire danger. Max: 27.

NORTH-WEST DISTRICT: Continuing dry, light to moderate E/SE tomorrow.
