WA: Labor support drops to lowest since WA election: Newspoll

SYDNEY, April 1 AAP - Support for the Gallop Labor government in Western Australiahas dropped to its lowest level since it was elected 13 months ago, according to a newsurvey.

The Newspoll, published in The Australian today, shows support for Labor dropping onepoint to 34 per cent.

Support for the Liberal Party also fell four points, but it remained favoured by 37per cent of voters.

The survey, the first published since Pauline Hanson stepped down as leader of OneNation, has also seen support for that party more than halve to 2 per cent.

But while Labor continues to lag in the polls, the popularity of leader Dr Geoff Gallopremains strong.

Half the respondents in the Newspoll said they were satisfied with Dr Gallop's performance,while 38 per cent approved of Liberal rival Colin Barnett's performance.

In the preferred premier stakes, 47 per cent favoured Dr Gallop while Mr Barnett couldonly manage 19 per cent.
