Vic: No killer yet in Thurgood Dove murder, inquest

An inquest has failed to solve the mystery of why a Melbourne woman was shot dead in
front of her three children, or who killed her.

Coroner IAIN WEST is unable to identify the person or persons responsible for the death
of 34-year-old JANE THURGOOD-DOVE.

She was shot in the back of the head in the driveway of the family Muriel Street home
in suburban Niddrie on November 6, 1997.

Her three children, then aged 10, five and three, were in the back of the car at the time.

Ms THURGOOD-DOVE'S husband MARK, parents and sisters were at the inquest.

Detective Senior Sergeant RON IDDLES has told the Melbourne Coroners Court that police
have not discovered a motive for the murder.

He says a photo-fit of a suspect was circulated around the country, generating 900 reports.

He says more than 1,000 people, including family, friends and possible suspects have
been questioned but no one responsible has been found.

Det IDDLES has told the court a Victorian government reward of $100,000 is still on
offer and investigations are continuing.

Outside the court, Ms THURGOOD-DOVE'S sister SUE WATSON said the inquest has not helped
the family, and she says people will never understand what impact this has on the children.
