QLD:Katter's gay brother speaks out
By Petrina Berry
BRISBANE, Aug 23 AAP - Bob Katter's gay brother has slammed his sibling's recent comments
against same-sex couples as hurtful and damaging.
Carl Katter openly criticised the independent federal MP in an interview with Network
Ten's George Negus.
He said his brother's comment that same sex marriage should not be treated seriously
was distressing.
Bob Katter made the comment at an anti-gay rally outside parliament house on August 16.
"Truly this proposition deserves to be laughed at and ridiculed. It doesn't serve any
serious treatment," he said to cheers and thunderous applause.
Carl Katter told Negus those were dangerous comments.
"It's hurtful, it's dangerous, it's damaging and it's really inappropriate," he said.
Carl Katter also said he's concerned about the impact the MP's comments will have on
the community.
"I don't understand his motives," he said.
"... I don't know how he can target a minority and persecute them in the way he has.
"His gross generalisations are inappropriate in today's society.
"Honestly, whenever I see him in the news I turn him off."
The interview will go to air at 6.30pm on Tuesday.
